As a child I had always dreamed of adopting a wild mustang. Last year (Aug 2007), now well into adulthood at almost 40, my husband and I visted the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary in South Dakota for vacation. The 11,000 acre sanctuary takes in BLM mustangs and others that are "unadoptable" and adopts out the foals to raise money for sanctuary upkeep. We visited 3 or 4 times during our trip and visted several wild horse herds taking around 600 photos.
More about our trip there and adopting mustangs next time.
